More Myself: A Journey by Alicia Keys | Amazon
More Myself, is the autobiography of Alicia Keys. The book perfectly describes Alicia’s journey from childhood, through young adulthood, and into full womanhood. She speaks very candidly about her highs and lows throughout her career and her personal life. The reader has an opportunity to get to know Alicia Augello Cook, and not just the Alicia Keys seen on TV. Alicia describes her experience growing up in a single parent household and all the feelings that come with having an absent father. She describes her experiences of being biracial. Alicia also broaches many personal topics, even if it’s only briefly. She really displays courage throughout this book.
After reading this book, the reader will have a different perspective on celebrities. Alicia takes the time to show her humanity throughout this book. She talks about the insecurities that most women experience throughout their life. She opens up about her past successful and unsuccessful romantic relationships. She shares the many challenges and fears she experienced being a first time mom and the guilt she faced at times being a working mom. Alicia is very honest about losing herself along her journey and the steps she took to rediscover herself. As expected the book goes into details about the musical process to create her numerous albums; however, the pure honesty on the personal details of her life were unexpected. This is a great book to read. It helps us to see that while we may have different backgrounds, economic statuses and other differences, we are all human. We each are on our own journey of life.
