The Gifts of Imperfection: Let Go of Who You Think You're Supposed to Be and Embrace Who You Are | Amazon
The Gifts of Imperfection provides readers with insights to take an honest and hard look at ourselves. The entire book focuses on learning how to practice wholehearted living. The author explores three main keys to wholehearted living including connection, courage and compassion. The book also discusses the things that get in the way of wholehearted living including perfectionism, shame, guilt and lack of self-compassion. The book is composed of chapters consisting of guideposts each providing ways to cultivate wholehearted living. Each guidepost provides a title which summarizes both what is needed for us to move forward and also what is holding us back from letting go of who we think we’re supposed to be and to embrace who we are.
The author does a great job to help us to gain a better understanding of ourselves and learn how to embrace ourselves. Throughout the book, the author dives into topics that we are at times afraid to explore. She mentions how each of us uses a form of numbing to escape our realities. She explores how we let our need for certainty replace having faith. At times we try to fit into what others say we should be. This book helps us to remember that the only thing we should do is be our authentic self. The Gifts of Imperfection is a shorter read but a very powerful read. I encourage anyone looking to explore and embrace their imperfections to read this book.
